"Fools Gold"
Michael Fairfax / Barry Witherden / Paul Khimasia Morgan
Michael Fairfax is a sculptor and sound artist. He has exhibited his sound-sculptures in the
UK, USA and in Europe. In 1972 Michael
studied ‘Musique Concrete’ in London with Ernest Berk. Later Michael created sound pieces for the
Greenham Common Camera Obscura installation and during Year of the Artist; a
sound installation at Hestercombe House, Somerset. Michael pursued his public art career
alongside a period of sound exploration which culminated in him forming an
electro-acoustic improv band called Tapes+Ashes also featuring Matt Saunders
and Barry Witherden. That dissolved into
Gimlet-Eyed Mariners featuring Barry and Michael; they had their debut album
released on The Slightly Off Kilter Label in January 2012.
Barry Witherden has performed improvised electronic music
as part of Tapes + Ashes and Gimlet-Eyed Mariners. He presents jazz and avant-garde music on his
Sounds Like Jazz show for 10Radio and has written for Jazz Journal, Jazz Review
and The Wire.
Paul Khimasia Morgan is
interested in birdwatching, bricklaying and free improvisation. He has previously performed with Dimitra
Lazaridou-Chatzigoga, Simon Whetham, Robert Curgenven, Ryu Hankil, Patrick
Farmer and Duncan Harrison. His work has
been released on Cronica, Con-V, engraved glass, Absence Of Wax and his own
Aural Detritus imprint. He curates aural detritus concert series in Brighton, UK and writes for The Sound
Projector.
"It moves through interesting bits of improvised
electronic sounds, some squeak on the zither and has an occasional spooky
atmosphere…"

extended use of sound..."
